Interviews with players:
I conducted multiple interviews with students across campus to find out more about how players engage with the MOBA space. From a standard set of 10 questions, I received a range of interesting answers from players of various backgrounds.
Player Interviews
"Understanding video players’ motivational differences is important because it sets the foundation for investigating social interactions in these environments beyond demographic segments alone." (A.S. Khan et al., 355)
Relation to Study:
As is apparent based on the opening statement on the first page, the study is about the two communities that have grown up around these games. While the page over the communities addresses some of the larger elements of each, to understand each I needed to go straight source and ask gamers belonging to each one (and in some cases both) their thoughts on the why, what and how of the rivalry. the answers I got were a mixed bag of interesting clues as to the nature of why gamers got into each title, as well as the general sense of less experienced, self professed casual gamers' takes from the outside looking in.
